Thank you to Lidia Ebersole for another great Polish Happy Hour. The latest happy hour was on May 1st at Chuck’s on Monroe Street in Toledo, Ohio. Everyone had a great time with great food, Polish drinks,and door prizes. Lidia is already planning the next Polish happy hour which will be in July. 35th Annual Exhibit at 20 North Gallery
Peggy Grant’s 35th Annual Exhibit will open with a public reception from 6 to 9 p.m. on January 27th in the 20 North Gallery, at 18 N. St. Clair St. The exhibit features the work of about a dozen artists. Started by Grant, a curator and artist, the yearly event has been at various venues over the years and for the last 17 years, at 20 North Gallery. If you want to put some “Polish” in your Christmas traditions, there’s no better place to start than at PACT’s annual Wigilia Celebration. This year, Stan Machosky, PACT Board member and resident MC, did an excellent job explaining some of the Christmas Eve traditions observed in Poland. Some of this year’s Wigilia participants also shared their Polish Christmas Eve traditions with everyone. Saturday, October 8th was a great day for the Kielbasa crowd in Toledo. The 2nd Kielbasa Cook Off was held at the Donnely Family Neighborhood Center at Blessed Sacrament Church. Twelve amateur kielbasa makers vied for the coveted title of “Kielbasa King”. There was no shortage of kielbasa and everyone was able to purchase kielbasa samples along with other great Polish food like kapusta, mizeria, placek and Cruchinki. The winning team at this year’s Kielbasa Klassic held at the Giant Oak Golf Club included Bud Crosby – Billy Peneff – Bill Akers and Jack Sparagowski. The team from Ski’s Restaurant had a nice round of -14 under including two eagles. The winners each won 10 Pounds of kielbasa from Stanley’s Market, a beautiful individual trophy and a cash prize. The dedication of the Ohio Historical Marker honoring Alexander Drabik took place on Saturday, May 28th at the site of his birthplace in Holland, Ohio. About 150 family and friends attended this dedication to honor the WWII hero. Sergeant Alexander Drabik, the first American soldier to cross the bridge at Remagen, Germany received the Distinguished Service Cross for his heroism on April 5, 1945.
